Shane Guffogg grew up in a small farming town in Central CA. He attended Cal Arts, graduating in 1985 with a degree in Fine Arts and moved to Los Angeles. For the next couple of years he did what most young college grads do, wait on tables and build movie sets while searching for their own voice. In 1989, Guffogg started working as a studio assistant for artists Joe Goode and Ed Ruscha and that same year began exhibiting his paintings in Galleries. Since then Guffogg has had more than 50 exhibitions in Galleries and Museums and is collected by some of the most important Museums and collectors in the world and currently has 3 shows up in the LA area. His watercolors are featured at the Pasadena Museum in a show titled Liquid LA and his oil paintings are featured in two shows in the new Gallery Row District of Downtown LA. Both shows address the artist in their studio and are titled Inside the Box and Outside the Box and can be seen at Bert Green Fine Art (www.bgfa.us) and Pharmaka-Art (www.pharmaka-art.org). Guffogg is one of the founding members of the LA based art group Pharmaka and is the President of the Non-profit Pharmaka-Art space in the Historic Bank District in downtown LA whose mission is to curate shows that explore the role of painting in the 21st Century.
Shane is pleased to be a part of American Ese because he "sees the arts as a singular force that helps us to define and understand who we are".
